August and Eleanor Streater Mathematics and Science Scholarship Endowment Fund:  Established in 1997 by Eleanor A. Perillo Streater (1926 – 1998).  Mrs. Streater attended Temple University in Philadelphia, majoring in statistics. She later worked for the Navy in that field.  Her husband, August “Augie” L. Streater, (1921 – 1994) graduated from the University of Washington, majoring in electrical engineering.  In the course of his career he held numerous patents and achieved international respect as an engineer/designer.  He came to Bluffton in 1965 as vice president of engineering at Franklin Electric.  The Fund is to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors attending an accredited Wells County high school.  The recipients must be enrolled in an accredited college or university majoring in engineering, physics, mathematics, statistics, medicine, or astronomy.

ELIGIBILITY: 

Applicant must:

1.      Be a high school senior graduating from one of the accredited Wells County high schools;

2.      Have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale;

3.      Have maintained a B+ or higher grade in the area of physics or mathematics in both the junior and senior years of high school;

4.      Have maintained an excellent attendance record during the four years of high school;      

5.      Possess exceptional character;

6.      Have abstained from the use of drugs and/or alcohol;

7.      Be involved in recognized community activities;

8.      Plan to enroll at an accredited college or university with the intent of pursuing a major course of study in one of the following fields: engineering, physics, mathematics, statistics, premedicine or astronomy; and

9.      Have three (3) letters of recommendation, one of which must come from a mathematics or science teacher.

APPLICATION PROCESS: 

Interested individuals who feel they meet the eligibility criteria must file an application with their school’s Guidance Office by April 5.  Applications may be obtained from that office.
